On May 30, 1904, eleven women founded Alpha Gamma Delta at Syracuse University. In the 105 years since our fraternity was formed, we have grown to boast over 145,000 sisters located at 182 college campuses around the world.
Our colors red, buff, and green, were chosen upon our founding in 1904. The next year, in 1905, it was determined that red and buff roses would be our fraternity flowers. In 1906, our lovable squirrel mascot, Skiouros, was adopted.
In 1909, Alpha Gamma Delta became a member of the National Panhellenic Conference, and in 1927 our first International Headquarters – one of the first of its kind in the Panhellenic world – was established in New York City. In 1965 International Headquarters moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where it currently is today. While Alpha Gamma Delta has changed the location of their philanthropic efforts, it has always remained dedicated to our work with diabetes research and education. In 1990, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation was created as the destination for all of our contributions. Alpha Gamma Deltas around the world have tirelessly worked to help the lives and futures of those with diabetes.
In 2003, our vision statement “Inspire the Woman, Impact the World” came to be. Our vision statement reflects our goals as classy women in modern society – to inspire and impact the world in a positive manner, staying true to both ourselves and the ideals of our fraternity.
In 2004, we celebrated our 100th anniversary as a fraternity. In our 105 years, we have become known for our strong sisterhood, which is expanding constantly. It brings us all great joy and honor to be associated with Alpha Gamma Delta and its rich history and traditions.

In October of 1920, Gamma Sigma was founded as a local sorority in Lawrence. On June 1, 1922 Gamma Sigma was granted a charter from Alpha Gamma Delta and was installed as the 13th sorority on the University of Kansas campus.
Thirty four women were initiated into Alpha Gamma Delta on that glorious Spring day. A whirlwind of activities followed... a business meeting was held and a Panhellenic Reception at the chapter house the following day. That evening, an Installation Banquet was held at Wiedeman's Tea Room. After the banquet, the women gathered around the piano and sang beautiful Alpha Gam songs and at the request of several guests, KU's Rock Chalk Chant.
For more than 40 years, the Epsilon Beta Chapter has been at the heart of Greek life at the Univeristy of Kansas. Since our founding in June of 1922, and reinstallation in 1965, Epsilon Beta Chapter has nurtured and sustained hundreds of young women who later left KU and went on to become deteremined and successful women.
